Don't Fence Me In

breaking down boundaries to the exuberant life of writing

Like Cra-a-a-a-zy Man! Our final party for #WriterlbsOff is a wild, crazy, cool party traveling back to the 1950s to jive with the Beats and those pretending to be Beatniks in the campy movies. We are really cool, hip writers and we have earned our rebellion. We have a lot of reading to do on [...]

As some of you may have seen, I won a 40 word flash contest hosted by Alison Wells (@alisonwells) that she held for her 40th Birthday. It was a fun contest with many great entries. You can see all the winners at Alison’s blog – THE FORTY WORD – Winners. Celebrating Alison’s birthday and having [...]

I forgot to post a link from my blog to Soft Whispers last time one of my poems was featured. I plan to submit poems there regularly. I want to thank all my friends who have already commented on this poem. Here it is, Compassion’s Duality at Soft Whispers “I wrote this for someone suffering [...]

Love’s Note Love’s Note was written, After thoughts, Between words, Without obsession. Love’s Note was played, Between breaths, Outside sounds, Within embrace. Love’s Note was sent, With wind, Around time, In gardenias. Love’s Note was not read, Under sedation, Through desire, In enchantment. Love’s Note was not heard, Inside hypocrisy, Around mediocrity, Over indulgence. Saturating [...]

Congratulations #writerlbsOff community! Our community members made amazing progress in January with several pounds off, higher creativity and productive writing.  And, some of us have persevered through challenges with our health and creativity, but we are all here strong and happy. We did it together! What started as a simple suggestion of a few friends who [...]

You can also read Part 1 and Part 2 of this series. Aunt Urola’s lavish jeweled necklaces were finally removed from my aunts’ necks. Now, they were all wearing hot blisters and bumpy rashes seared by the poison laced in each string. The red flush of their faces matched their flaring tempers. The men were [...]

Buddhism 101 says that all is suffering in this world. We know suffering is the cause of our unhappiness and meditation is how we see through this illusion. Can this truth be taken into the worst pain? Or into minor irritations? Can we master the experience of being able to distinguish between pain and suffering [...]

9/11 Shock Waves Today I watched the 9/11 memorial, similar to the time I watched 8 years ago, on Good Morning America. I sat with my 9 month old babies, talking on the phone to my husband. I watched at the moment, Charlie Gibson, was getting alarmed at the live sight of planes crashing into [...]

Anne Tyler Lord

My name is Anne Tyler Lord. I have been many things in my life, but right now, I know I must write. I'm exploring new worlds and I don't like fences. I like to roam where I am led.

I have adopted the motto, Don't Fence Me In, to remind myself to take risks, to do what is in my heart and to expand my world when old habits take over.

I am currently working on a novel, a creative non-fiction historical book, non-fiction educational courses and ongoing short fiction and poetry.

The Writer’s Life (see on Twitter - @Writers_Life and #Writers_Life) is my regular blog series that looks at the life of writers from a personal angle; our challenges, our quests, and what drives us to create. Read more about me here.

So, join me, you won't be sorry.

Current Writing Projects

Tyler Corner is an historical novel about the lives of two women who were cousins growing up on Iowa farms in the 1920s - 1930s. It is based on the experiences & artifacts from my own family. I am currently researching this novel to begin writing during NaNoWriMo 2010.

I am creating ebooks and courses for writers, and anyone who wants more creativity and transformation in their lives. The courses are based on Narrative and Poetry Therapy & Humor.

Mafia Frostbite: A Mafia Family Christmas is my first fictional series. It is followed by a sequel series titled Twisted Family Bonds. It is a dark humor soap opera about the Kaszinovs, a Russian Mafia  Family.

LoveCommitmentPassion_cover R-Evolutionary Nights is a novel of romance and suspense set in Prague, Budapest and Wisconsin.  Alex and Jack are in love, but must escape the influences of the Russian mafia that has infiltrated Jack's family. I began this novel during the 2009 NaNoWriMo. And, I won.

a7d8cfd4 RedFlame DeepWater is a collection of spiritual poems about the agony and ecstasy of the spiritual journey. RedFlame describes the experience of the Dark Night of the Soul.  I will continue the collection in 2010 with DeepWater, illuminating ecstatic spiritual experiences.
